Ross County was formed on August 20, 1798 by proclamation of Arthur St. Clair, Governor of the Northwest Territory. It included a large part of what is now the State of Ohio. Ross County was named for James Ross of Allegheny County, PA. In 1800, the capital of the Northwest Territory was moved to Chillicothe, the present County Seat. In 1817, the state capital moved 40 miles north to the present capital city of Columbus because it was more centrally located.
Frankfort, Ohio is a charming village in Ross County in the heart of south-central Ohio, situated along the north fork of Paint Creek. The village is located in Concord Township and is the home of the International Sunflower Festival, held annually the first weekend in September.
